Athlete: Bill Egan

Bill Egan I have been active in cycling for approx 15 years. In that time I have done mainly road racing, but have also been very active in track and mountain bike racing. My specialty on the road is as a sprinter, mainly doing well in criteriums. On the track my best events are the Kilometer, Kerin and Match Sprint. I have been to Masters Track Nationals several times with a couple of top ten finishes in the Match Sprint. I have been the Arizona State Champion in several events over the years on the track. About 5 years ago I placed 3rd in the Kerin at the Alpenrose Velodrome during the National Race series. I started doing triathlons about 3 years ago and have enjoyed myself very much. My strong event is cycling but I am working on my run and swim. I do well at the Sprint and Olympic distances but enjoy the challenge of the longer events. I have completed 4 Ironman events and a dozen 70.3 events. I have been coached by Tim Bolen with Excel and Beyond for over a year and am very happy with the level of coaching and guidance I have received. He is a great mentor and a real inspiration to me, even when things do not go well for me. In 2008 I started the year pretty sick and Tim was great in adapting my training and getting me back on track to my race goals. I made great progress in the 70.3 distance races in 2008 and am looking forward to going much faster in the future.
