I started my triathlon career with the first three triathlons ever raced in England in 1983 after having run over 40 marathons including the first three London Marathons, Boston and New York. In 1982, I ran marathons in France, England, Ireland, Scotland Wales and Switzerland. In 1983, I competed in the first “Ironman” event in England without the benefit of Gatorade or other nutrition. Needless to say, the last 10 miles of the run were quite horrible. Triathlons in England in the early days were tough on the swim because wet suits were not allowed and temperatures were often in the 50-60 degree range. Again, it was quite horrible. Things have come a long way since and because of the pleasant changes (nutrition and wetsuits); I am still going after 26 years of triathlon racing.
I still work pretty hard as a single man consultant, but am able to manage my triathlon training by being very efficient in my time. Building a gym with a CompuTrainer and Running Machine and doing many of my workouts indoors has helped tremendously. Skipping workouts without a valid reason is not an option for me.
2009 goals are top ten AG finishes at Nationals and Worlds and 1st place AG finish in Arizona Ironman.
